Well done to Thorburn for acting fast in apprehending a suspect that entered House no 23 Dock Point on Timeball Boulevard at the Point Waterfront Area.
On 18 February 2020 at 9:48am, our Security Control Room (031 335 6000) received a call from a lady by the name of Mrs Rehana Ahmed, notifying them that a man had jumped over their wall and took her child’s bicycle (green BMX Bicycle). Our Control Room Officers alerted all the Security Officers in the area. The Officer at the corner of Camperdown Road and Albert Terrace quickly responded that he saw a man riding the bicycle out of the area. Security Site Manager Sean Prendergast authorised the Reaction Officers to give chase which lead out of the Precinct.
The two reaction officers searched the South Beach area for approx. 10-15 minutes, eventually Reaction Officer Mdluli spotted the suspect near the Kwikspar in South Beach where the suspect was positively identified and apprehended.
The Team were assisted by Metro Police Officers that were driving past and happened to witness the arrest which caused commotion as bystanders gathered to witness and wanted to assist our Reaction Officers. The Reaction Officers handed the suspect and the recovered bicycle over to the Metro Police Officers who arrested the suspect and took him to SAPS Point Station.
The Security Site Manager informed the complainant of the arrest and the recovered item. The Complainant then had to proceed to the Point Police Station to open a case and recover their item.
We would like to urge all Tenants and Occupants of the Point Waterfront to keep their valuable items safe either in your Storage rooms or in your Garage. This was an opportunistic crime that only happened since the bicycle was visible through the fence.
We always urge everyone to be alert and safe .
